Hi, my name is Josh Madison and I am an outdoor nature photographer. In case you are wondering, I am the photographer on the right side in the photo above. I am based in Ridgecrest, CA along the Eastern Sierra Mountains. The area I live is an outdoor photographers playground. There is so much beauty surrounding me and I don’t have to travel far to find something extravagant. If you are interested to know more about Ridgecrest and what it has to offer, check out Ridgecrest Guide.
There are plenty of trails surrounding the Ridgecrest area within a short drive offering plenty of places to explore. The trails are endless so you can explore a new trail nearly every time you go out.
I have always been an outdoorsman, from my childhood growing up in western Kentucky until now. Being outdoors has always offered a relaxing therapy to beat the everyday stresses. I enjoy taking hikes in the hills close by and I always find something new to shoot.
Fishing, camping, hiking, photography and anything outdoors related is my passion. Living in the desert means planning outdoor time appropriately. The desert is extremely hot during the day in the summer months so nighttime is the best. During the winter months, I like to be out during the day more.
My favorite niche of photography is night photography. The stars, galaxies, nebulas, planets, moon and meteor showers really entice me. My favorite night sky subjects to shoot are Milky Way during the summer months and star trails during the winter months.
I wasn’t always a photographer, as a matter of fact I just became truly interested in photography in 2021. My brother-in-law got me started and I haven’t looked back since. I have taken thousands of photos and spent lots of time reading and learning. I have learned many tips along the way. Now, I am giving back by teaching photography classes to the community. I also offer group and private workshops.
At first, I found photography to be a bit overwhelming when I started shooting in Manual Mode. Learning how to shoot in Manual Mode changed the way I shoot and my images have improved dramatically. Take a look at some of my work by viewing my Portfolio page.
